I actually own this one (that’s how it made the list) xD I’ll try to stay impartial, but spoiler alert, I really liked this series! Not sure how it’ll rate because it’s been a few years since I’ve read it, but we’ll find out together!

The back cover reads:
“After orphan Teru Kurebayashi loses her beloved older brother, she finds solace in the messages she exchanges with DAISY, an enigmatic figure who can only be reached through the cell phone her brother left her. Meanwhile, mysterious Tasuku Kurosaki always seems to be around whenever Teru needs help. Could DAISY be a lot closer than Teru thinks?
One day at school, Teru accidentally breaks a window and agrees to pay for it by helping Kurosaki with chores around school. Kurosaki is an impossible taskmaster though, and he also seems to be hiding something important from Teru…”

Every post past this point will be a spoiler, so please read ahead with caution!

Review time!

4.5 stars

Plot: 1 star.  This is a somewhat long manga, spanning 16 volumes, 75 chapters, and at least six specials.  And yet somehow, its plot is… hard to identify… At first, it’s Teru’s bullying, but that gets resolved before the end of volume one.  Then there’s the mystery of Daisy and the possibility that Teru’s brother left her some sort of amazing program -but these are only plot points to other characters; Teru herself doesn’t care and doesn’t pursue these.  It’s only after these are resolved that Akira comes into play which lasts for the rest of the series.  The series encompasses one high school girl who gets bullied to a plot that involves several governments and countries, resulting in many deaths, and then it ends with the girl still in high school.  Most of the plot happens around Teru, but she is not directly involved until she gets a personal investment in Akira.  I’m going to give this a star because it does eventually get a plot and that plot is resolved, but… just know that it’s a very shaky one star.
Art: 1 star.  I love the art in this manga.  The shading is great, the expressions are top notch, and all the characters are unique and diverse.  The action sequences are phenomenal, the movements are fluid and understandable, and as the volumes go on, the art only continues to improve.
Story Progression: 1 star.  This one is a bit hard, as well.  The story flows really well, despite the lack of a singular plot point, and I have no trouble keeping up with whatever is going on at any given time.  The only part I have trouble with is the ending xD  I enjoy the ending, but by the time everything is happening, I’ve become so invested in the characters and story that I can’t put the series down!  This is only at the end, though, so it’s not happening for an extremely long time.  I’m going to give this one star since it still feels like a healthy balance for the story.  Having the series end with the special chapters really does soften the blow of having the series end, too, so I’m going to add that in favor of the story progression.
Genre: 1/2 star.  The listed genre is romance, and this manga certainly has that.  The main couple is definitely a slow burn, but the dynamic and chemistry are there from the start.  The main character’s ship for her friends even manages to sail, and a background couple gets together, as well!  Love is definitely in the air xD  There’s a bit of comedy and school life, and definitely some drama.  Because of the darker moments and the sheer scale that the plot reaches, I feel like drama should be included in the genre list, as well, but romance does cover the main pair’s interactions.  This is another tough one to determine, but I’m going to have to give this a half star.  There’s so much more going on in this manga than just romance.  Because of the depth of the plot, I feel like romance simply isn’t enough for the genre.
Enjoyment: 1 star.  This is one of my all time favorite manga.  Even if the plot does get pretty intense, the characters are phenomenally written, and each interaction is a joy to read.  I love the author’s notes and the special chapters.  I love how sucked into the story I get every time I read it.  I like the progression of the story and how the pressure slowly builds until it’s life or death.  I like the twists and turns that the mystery of Soichiro creates, and I especially LOVE his interaction with Antler and how that changed my entire perception of Antler!  I love the character histories and how everyone’s woven together.  I love their passion and love for a man who cherished them just as deeply.  I love seeing the new generation of friends through Teru and her classmates.  I know her brother was so proud of her, and honestly, I am, too ❤
I know I couldn’t give this series 5 stars, but I do still highly recommend it (unofficially)!  Thanks so much for reading with me, and if you would like to check out my full review, then please click here.

I am going to be doing shorthand as I read.  These descriptions are really more of a reminder to myself about what all I have been able to read so far.  Sorry if this bothers anyone!  I will do a full description on the final review page of each series I read.

Every post past this point will be a spoiler, so please read ahead with caution!

ch60-64: the team decides they’ll decode M’s Last Testament (but they just have the key though; don’t they need the code for that?). Boss’s cafe’s under renovation, so the team starts meeting in Kurosaki’s apartment -he makes drinks while Teru serves them xD they need a super computer to decipher the code, but the government only has 1 and it’s being used, so they reach out to Takeda. Teru’s not sure they should trust him, though -makes sense; he’s gone after her several times- but he gives her data that shows all his misdeeds to prove that she can trust him. everyone else okays him; and he has a super computer. apparently he’s doing this without his company’s accent, so he could get in a ton of trouble if he’s caught. after this alliance, the adults drink heavily. Boss takes Takeda and Andy home, and Riko takes herself home; Teru stays to clean up, so she’s there when Kurosaki wakes up. he’s still drunk, but Teru opens up to him about feeling like something’s off with the plan. he agrees and is thankful for her honesty. he almost makes a move on her, but he passes out again xD Teru walks Kaoruko back to Takeda’s -Kurosaki’ll pick her up later. Chiharu calls Kurosaki looking for Akira; he’s looking for M’s Key and will do anything to get it. Kurosaki goes racing after Teru. she’s safely with Takeda by now. Takeda’s checking the Key for viruses, so it’s on his computer right now. Akira cuts the power and attacks them, but Teru holds him off with her phone zapper. Takeda restores the power and checks on the Key to make sure the anti-virus is still running. FOR SOME REASON HE SHOWS AKIRA THE SCREEN?! so Akira deciphers it in an instant (like, I know normally someone couldn’t do this, but if I had a high-security-risk project, I wouldn’t show it to anyone outside the team, even for an instant, even if it’s just encrypted code. … probably). Akira throws tear gas and gets away. before Takeda showed him the screen, Akira was breaking down again and he threw a whole rant at Teru about how no one cares about him except his grandpa who left the Key for him; everyone else just uses and hurts him and calls him names. everyone’s confused why Akira just ran out like that and Kurosaki explains that he has a hunch Akira can solve codes in an instant.
Akira’s behavior bothers Teru the most, but now the team’s meeting with the government team (3 peeps: serious older guy, quiet guy, and angry-loudmouth). Loudmouth is a pain who’s uncooperative and keeps yelling blame at everyone in the room -only Riko can get him to calm down. Quiet Guy’s more polite, but he’s just as unhelpful in that any idea Teru brings up, he tries to shoot down or discredit. Serious Guy just wants them to fix everything (what is this team even supposed to do?). after the meeting, it turns out that Teru has a fever. she has a talk with Riko about Akira and falls asleep after. Kurosaki also has a talk with Riko. he admits that Akira reminds him of a younger version of himself. where he grew out of his angst thanks to his friends, Akira has no one. Riko comforts him and he reveals that he’s been worried she would be upset since he and Teru’ve been wanting to focus more on Akira than M’s Key. Riko has a realization thanks to this talk. she goes to Soichiro’s grave to get her head on straight then meets with Andy and Boss so they can re-listen to Antler’s call.
back with Kurosaki and Teru, they almost have a moment again xD Kurosaki messes with Teru about Akira, so she pulls some of his hair out xD for THE 3RD TIME, he almost makes a move, but Riko’s phone call interrupts him this time -BOY, STOP BUILDING THE TENSION! x////D the main team meet at Boss’s café -now fixed up with bulletproof glass, heated floors, and more- to talk about what Riko figured out. Antler’s call set the team in motion on 1 goal: solving M’s Last Testament, but she realized that was on purpose and done in such a way as to convince them not to divert their attention anywhere else -such as to Akira. Antler manipulated the group, but now they’ve snapped out of it. the group decides they need to focus on Akira more and M’s Last Testament rather than the key; they still feel they’re missing something, so Teru wonders if the missing piece is in her phone. everyone dismisses her, but when her phone falls off the table and the battery pops out, there’s a message on the inside cover
the message is just her name and school, but Teru says the class number is wrong. Boss and Andy saw the message but didn’t put any thought into it because it’s normal to label your possessions; Kurosaki recognizes Soichiro’s handwriting, and they decide to look into it. it turns out Andy let Soichiro use a room in the school to think/decipher stuff. they go into the school at night, Teru interpreting the message to mean the old science room. she further decodes the message because unlike the rest of the group, she thought of her brother as being silly rather than being a genius xD they’re all overthinking everything xD turns out Soichiro did leave a message! (I think he had too much time on his hands, despite slowly dying and supposedly cracking Jack Frost; though I guess while a program’s running, he had lots of time to kill xD). somehow despite setting this up more than a year in advance, Soichiro was able to record something that sounded like a flawless conversation, guessing who would be there, what they would say, and even how they would move. he traps Andy in a sauna -and leave a box of wine for Boss-, apologizes to Riko for their fight, does a 100Q&A thing with Kurosaki, and leaves Teru a snack xD they question if he really died or if he was really there xD at the end, they’re all re-united and Soichiro left a CD taped to the bottom of a mirror that showed what they would need to finish M’s Last Testament: each other ❤ and the CD xD
ch65: we get a lot of story stuff here @.@; anyway, Chiharu finds Akira, and I feel like she’s tricking him by agreeing to help him… the team watches the CD Soichiro gave them. Teru finally gets the see the serious side of her brother ❤ the start of the CD is a home video of the professor with a young Akira; Kurosaki’s father and Soichiro are there as well ❤ after this part is where the story stuff happens. the video cuts off and the professor tells Akira’s story. the professor was invited into a project as an expert. the test subject was Akira, known then as M-M (“Mad Machine”); he was unruly and not treated like a human. the professor took to Akira because he’d lost his daughter and grandchild in an accident years ago and Akira was around the same age as his grandchild would’ve been. he treats Akira well, taking him out of the lab, and letting Akira call him Grandpa. but when the professor has to go on a work trip, the project is shut down and Akira reportedly dies in an accident during transport. all records of him are wiped -which is why the professor was glad to have Soichiro’s video of Akira to prove he existed. the professor didn’t fully believe that Akira had died, so he keeps looking over the years, and Kurosaki’s father eventually finds a lead; he gives the professor his tip but can’t say much because he’s on the run about a different matter. he assures the professor he can shake his pursuers, but that’s the night he’s killed. the next day, some guy appears in the professor’s office, explaining that Kurosaki’s father was killed in a hit&run but they’re reporting it as suicide and they want the professor to name him as a traitor in exchange for encrypted data called M’s Last Testament which explained the plan for Akira; it was only part of the plan, but the professor was willing to trade Kurosaki’s father’s reputation for it. (so we now have proof that his dad wasn’t a traitor! I think Kurosaki appreciates that peace of mind <3). the professor reveals that Akira was originally supposed to be disposed of but was abducted during transport, and M’s Last Testament is a trap to capture and kill him
ch66-69: the professor asks for help saving Akira at the end of the video, but Teru doesn’t seem happy about it. she’s removed from the team now that the adults know this is a very big deal. she goes to the store to get soy sauce and Antler shows up to talk to her. he tries to provoke her, but she isn’t swayed, just like Soichiro wasn’t (I guess Soichiro met Antler at some point?). she also calls him ScrubBrush which seems to bother him xD he does say stuff that resonates in her, though. Riko shows up and Antler vanishes. later, the team (minus Teru) watches another video with Soichiro. he explains that the trap for Akira couldn’t really trip until the professor died. the news of his death described M’s Last Testament as being lost by the professor, like the professor had created it. Soichiro probably would’ve been killed, except that his illness was going to kill him quickly anyway, so he was left alone. he decoded part of M’s Last Testament and gave it to a bureaucrat, but the bureaucrat died soon after and it was “lost” -though Soichiro kept a copy which he hid for the team to find. he can’t ask the team to save Akira, but he left this data for them to decide for themselves; that’s the most he could bring himself to do. now the team has to decide, and Kurosaki says he needs to discuss it with Teru since it’ll be a big life changing decision. when he gets home, she’s mumbling sutras because she thinks Antler might’ve gotten into her head after all; she keeps dropping things and fumbling and stubbing her toe xD Kurosaki reassures her, and they decide to go have an actual talk about everything.
Teru recounts everything Antler said to her, but also admits that she doesn’t feel compelled to save Akira like everyone else; he’s only ever been terrible to her, but with how adamently the professor and her brother and Kurosaki’s father worked to give Akira a chance, she feels conflicted; they put their lives into this child, shouldn’t she uphold their wishes and work? she’s so torn. Kurosaki understands where she’s coming from, and he praises her for being honest, but he also admits that he’s going to save Akira because Akira’s like him. they don’t argue, but they don’t reach a consensus. Kurosaki tells the team because he’s scared he just goofed xD Riko does sort of scold him, but honesty’s really the best policy in relationships. anyway, the rest of the adults also want to save Akira. Takeda decoded more of M’s Last Testament which shows an island and other info but not how to get there; he needs Daisy to get the rest of the data, so they go off. Teru wanted to talk with Kurosaki more and fix things between them -as suggested by her friends- but he’s leaving for a few days to get this done. during this time, Teru and Kurosaki become lack luster, and Teru suddenly remembers they can TEXT EACH OTHER. so, they do that xD they make up ❤
newly motivated, Kurosaki declares he’ll decode everything in 2 days so he can come back for Teru’s birthday. he ends up finishing in a day and a half, but then collapses and sleeps for almost a full day after xD he does wake up once when Teru comes to visit him, and he reserves her time for her birthday -everyone else’ll just have to celebrate with her on another day xD Kurosaki talks to the adults on the team about it; apparently, he plans to confess his feelings to her on her birthday!!! Riko warns him about society and how they’ll view the relationship, but Kurosaki’s made up his mind. Riko says she wants them to be happy ❤ they go out shopping and Kurosaki buys Teru socks finally xD they eat somewhere fancy, and Teru’s having so much fun that she worries something bad’ll happen like every time before. Kurosaki reassures her everything’ll be wonderful. they have a nice conversation together where Teru supports Kurosaki about Akira, and they’re able to talk about it even though they have different views ❤ Kurosaki confesses that Teru’s his strength, so she does everything in her power to give him support rather than worry him. the day ends on a ferris wheel where Kurosaki gives her a classy bracelet with daisies on the cameo face ❤ THEY ALSO SHARE THEIR FIRST KISS!!!!!! *head explodes* they also say “I love you” to each other ❤
at school, Teru and Kurosaki’re being distant. Kiyoshi thinks they had a fight, BUT THE GIRLS KNOW!! the teens all go have a talk together, and while they’re all happy for Teru, Rena does worry about how society’ll treat the relationship, as well as worrying about the danger Kurosaki’s in for meddling with Akira. Kiyoshi reprimands her, but someone had to say it (I support you, Rena)! Haruka’s sure everything’ll work out. that night when Kurosaki gets home, he and Teru are adorable xDDDDD he wants to hug her and they’re both so flustered but he insists the beginning of the relationship is very important (which, I guess, he’s not wrong) xD he also wants a kiss, but she says later xD game plan time! Boss and Kurosaki will meet with the government to explain all findings, and if things go well, they may be on a plane tomorrow to head to the island and hopefully stop Akira before he gets killed. Kurosaki asks if he can kiss Teru before they leave, and she agrees but only if he promises to kiss her when he gets back, too ❤ Riko and Andy talk about Teru and Kurosaki’s relationship; they talk about not wanting to waste time because look at how many people have missed out because of this situation. Riko also phsychologically analyzes Akira a bit -from the info Antler gave Teru- and determines that Akira may be going after Teru because he wants her to treat him like a mother should’ve and that maybe he sees Kurosaki as a father figure, but she also admits that those two won’t fit those molds; it’ll probably be the adults who take on those roles, if they can even save Akira. Andy and Riko also think about the meeting with the government tomorrow who’ll probably be mad that they’ve been in the dark this whole time xD gotta protect that data, though! no leaks!
to the meeting! only Angry Guy shows up, and he’s ticked, saying how the team’s been hiding stuff and working WITH Akira. Boss and Kurosaki immediately realize something’s wrong; there’s a mole or a liar somewhere, and they intend to find out who it was within the government. the door’s sealed for 30 minutes, but Angry Guy at least turns off his jammer finally >xP Teru’s approached by Quiet Guy who says Akira’s been spotted nearby and Kurosaki wanted her moved to a safe place. she goes with him, but Andy’s alarmed when Kiyoshi tells him. he injects her with something that knocks her out, and Kurosaki receives a message from Teru’s phone, letting him know that his princess has been abducted; they’re trying to crush the team that knows the truth about M’s Last Testament (this is a very serious matter, but I have to say: Kurosaki, your princess is in another castle! -I’m sorry; I’m sleep deprived).
ch70-74: with Teru taken, Kurosaki tries to break down the door but he can’t. Old Guy goes searching and finds Quiet Guy unconscious and bleeding from a head injury; he doesn’t remember what happened (LIAR!!). Andy asks Kiyoshi for a favor. Antler gives Teru the antidote but she’s still woozy from the drug; he talks to Quiet Guy (Kono) on the phone and reveals a lot like Kono hired him and is a spy who worked for the creators of M’s Last Testament, that the plans have changed, and that if Kono is discovered, then he’ll be eliminated. Kono worries about Antler’s warning, but he’s determined to get to the top of the government. Teru’s phone was destroyed and left, so Kurosaki has it now. Riko lets the gov guys have it; she’s tired of their bull and unprofessionalism and it’s their fault Teru’s been taken -which is right on several levels. Kono gives a big speech and tells Kurosaki that they need to focus on finding Teru, no need to worry about M’s Last Testament. Andy jumps in and questions Kono, throwing out that he lied to Teru to get her in the car and that Kiyoshi overheard it; he says he knows what to do to take action, so he’s going to do it since everyone else is too stuck on politics and are dragging their feet out of fear. Kono says Andy might be a traitor, and the team dismisses Andy and leaves; only Angry Guy tries to defend him -which is surprising that he would. Kiyoshi meets with Kono, and he’s prepared to testify against Kono to set everything right; he has recordings, etc. Kono threatens Teru’s life if Kiyoshi doesn’t hand over everything now and turn against Andy. Andy’s there, though, and reinforcements arrive, catching Kono red-handed. Kono has a break down and tells them everything; Teru’s on the island where M’s Last Testament is. in a roundabout way, that was always the plan. Akira and the team were supposed to end up there and decrypt M’s Last Testament together, and then the island would blow up and kill them all, finally erasing Akira and all who knew of him. Riko punches him (GOOD!), and the team get ready to save Teru.
Teru wakes up on the island and nearly panics, but she remembers Soichiro’s words about using good memories and favorite phrases to ground yourself. she starts wandering and gets found by Akira. she tries to tell him that M’s Last Testament is a trap, but he doesn’t believe her or care. he decodes the entrance and goes through -which closes behind him so Teru can’t follow. back with the team, they’re ready for take off literally! Boss and Kurosaki’ll take a helicopter to the island. Riko packs snacks and wishes them well.
back on the island, Teru refuses to give up so she starts searching for clues. she finds blood splatter and a picture frame that has an SD card taped to the back. Boss and Kurosaki land on the island, and Kurosaki immediately runs off xD Boss’s attacked by Chiharu though!!!! Kurosaki finds Teru and they share quite a kiss x////D while they catch up, Chiharu comes in, and Kurosaki gets Teru and himself to cover because she’s shooting at them! Boss disarms her, but he’s been poisoned. Chiharu has the antidote, and she’ll give it to them as long as they let her go. she reveals that they have 1-3hrs before the island blows; 1hr if Akira opens all the locks -they put in enough to keep him busy for an hr- or 3hr if the island has to blow on its timer. the timer was triggered when Akira opened the 1st door. also, the codes were changed after the professor’s death, so that’s why this wasn’t in M’s Last Testament. Chiharu works for the ones who developed M’s Last Testament, but Antler doesn’t. she throws them the antidote as she makes her escape. Teru gives Kurosaki the extra data from the SD card and decides to go after Akira to stall him while Kurosaki analyzes it and Boss can be their comm guy and strategist.
Boss is very against it, but Kurosaki sees the same strength in her that Soichiro had, so he trusts her. I guess Kurosaki unlocks the elevator? they share a kiss before they get to work. Akira’s head is killing him and we see a flashback where doctors explained it was from all the experiments; the different chemicals used on him over the yrs have started destroying his brain; he’ll lose his memories and organs without the medicine they can give him. they still treat him horribly, though. Antler baited him with M’s Last Testament, saying it was left by the professor for someone special, and Chiharu -even though she was never kind- gave him the opportunity to pursue this. he keeps going because he remembers the professor, and he doesn’t even care if it’s a trap. back with Kurosaki, Teru’s still chasing Akira but her comms are losing signal as she goes. Kurosaki finds a file in the SD card that explains that M’s Last Testament can’t be stopped. Kurosaki chases after Teru who’s just caught up with Akira. he’s at the last door; if he opens it, that’s the end. Teru’s ready to challenge him!
everyone back home is wishing for their safety and return. Kurosaki convinces Boss to call back the helicopter and escape while Kurosaki goes to get Teru and Akira. she’s trying to convince him not to get them both killed, that there could be a future past this if he’ll just go with them, they can save him. he slaps her because he never asked them to save him. if they’re trying to help him for selfish reasons, then they’re just like all the others, just using him for their own gain. he tries to put in the code, but Teru pulls his hand from the keyboard. he tries to snap at her some more, saying he didn’t ask them to save him, and she tells him that the professor did ask them and that it’s for the professor’s dedication and faith in Akira that they’re doing this. if Akira really doesn’t care or remember him like he told her before, then why search and fight so hard for this? she’s touching on a nerve and he punches her to try to make her stop, but she sees her opening and grabs him, promising they’ll live through this, that he can’t die yet, that she’ll make sure he’s never alone again, that they’ll make memories past this. she collapses after, and Akira’s frozen; this finally caught him. Kurosaki shows up, and Akira questions if Teru was telling the truth about the island blowing up. it was the truth. she was trying to buy them time, but Kurosaki says they only have 15min, and it’ll blow; they can’t stop it. he encourages Akira not to cry, that this is when important stuff happens. Chiharu reports to her superior that the island exploded…
so, this is where the volume ends, but I couldn’t stop reading, so we’ll keep going!! SUCH A CLIFF HANGER, JEEZ!!
ch75: Riko recalls the day the island blew up; it was 2 months ago… but Teru and Kurosaki’re okay! and then we get a flashback for how that happened xD back on the island, Kurosaki reveals that the creator of the re-written Testament wanted Akira to be free, so rather than adding a code to stop the bomb, he added a code that could be accessed in the last 15min to opened an escape route by the final door. Kurosaki uses the password to access the code and has Akira decipher it so they can open the escape route. Akira collapses after, and Kurosaki carries him. Akira tries to protest so Kurosaki can carry Teru, but Kurosaki gives Teru a rice ball instead; she was just hungry x’D (this’s the 1st time Akira sees them being ridiculous xD). they find a motor boat below. while Kurosaki works to get it started, Antler appears and gives Teru a flash drive. he bows as the boat gets away. … um… WHAT?! WTC, ANTLER!? Boss meets them with the helicopter, and they’re all taken to safety. back to the present! the team’s on their way to see Akira in the hospital. HE HAS SHORT HAIR!! Boss’s looking after him and correcting Akira like he used to correct Kurosaki ❤ apparently, Akira had a brain tumor. the professor made notes about it back when he 1st met Akira, and they’d planned to remove it after the project was done, but then Akira was abducted, and his captors feared that removing the tumor may get rid of his decoding abilities, so they left it and treated it with drugs. it was growing almost to be the point of being inoperable, but the doctors got it out ❤ Teru gives Akira the flash drive; they’ve checked it for viruses and it looks like it was the promise the professor left for Akira. Akira tells them not to laugh, and wow, good thing he did xD back when Akira was little, he made the professor promise to sing the song Kurosaki’s father and Soichiro used to sing -“Daisy Bell”- for his birthday. the professor was bad at singing, but he kept his promise. the flash drive showed the professor singing it every year for every birthday he was apart from Akira. he never got better at singing, but he put his heart into it every time </3 TTwTT
we get back to normal school days. Kiyoshi’s training to be vice president in the student council. there’re rumors that Kurosaki’s going to quit, but he says it’ll be after Teru graduates (oh yeah, they’re 3rd yrs now). a lot has changed, but a lot has also stayed the same ❤ the end ❤
bonus1: set between when Kurosaki comes back but before he confesses to Teru, according to the author’s notes. Kurosaki notices that Teru’s been more serious about her appearance lately -he notices everything about her, so yeah xD he paints her nails for her because he wanted an excuse to do something for her where he could still be close -very sneaky, well done. he’s also thinking far ahead into their relationship o///o I wasn’t prepared for that, Kurosaki x///D;;;
bonus2: set the day after the other New Year’s special -so Teru’s a 2nd year. Takeda’s 1st dream involved Kurosaki having to kiss him to save Teru x’///D Mangaka, I was not prepared for these chapters!! xDD but I love them xD
bonus3: we see a parralel of Soichiro w/ Riko -from Kurosaki’s eyes- and Kurosaki w/ Teru -from Akira’s eyes. both younger men came to like the lady before them, but she always shone brightest with her guy, so the younger guy always made sure to stay out of the way. (it’s kind of really sweet, actually; sorry my description butchers it). also, Akira gets to go to his 1st festival! 8D
bonus4: we see when Antler and Soichiro met!!! Antler was coming to kill Soichiro DESPITE his inevitable death, but Soichiro was waiting for him. I think Soichiro’s foresight and brilliance took Antler by surprise, and when Soichiro offered an alternative, a small goal that might take years to achieve, that was so likely to fail but that Soichiro believed in so wholeheartedly, I think it got Antler’s attention and made him want to see if it could come true. Soichiro gave Antler the professor’s promise to Akira with the challenge that if Soichiro predicted correctly, then Antler must give the data to Akira. and Soichiro was right, and Antler -who worked for hire only, not for loyalty- decided to go along with Soichiro’s plan because (I think) it seemed fun, it was out of the ordinary in his very meticulous world. this made me appreciate Soichiro’s character even more, and actually helped ease me about Antler a bit, too; he’s been bothering me with his weird back-and-forth behavior!
bonus5: we see the fight between Riko and Soichiro that he apologized for during his test for the team. after getting sick and getting to work on deciphering the code, Soichiro tried to break up with Riko, but she wouldn’t let him. she cried and drank for 7 days after, and he finally came over, drenched in the rain. he admitted his weaknesses and his fears, and she comforted him. that’s the Soichiro she remembers and cherishes the most, the one who was broken that only she knew. I wasn’t ready for this chapter either T^T Soichiro gave her a ring -I guess in the bouquet he’d left for her during the test- which she wears
bonus6: apparently, Teru’s 17, Akira’s 20, and Kurosaki’s 25 (I had no idea Akira was 20; he looks so small and scrawny O.o; ). after getting out of the hospital, Akira started working at Boss’s café ❤ while Teru’s still in school, Kurosaki’s still the custodian -though he has to work for the government sometimes too. Kiyoshi’s dating Rena (Teru, your ship sailed!!)! every weekend, the team gets together at Kurosaki’s to eat together -Akira cooks while others help. the government’s paying for the whole team to study the island involved in M’s Last Testament; the research should only take half a day, but the rest of the time they can be on vacation xD Kurosaki’s a little more passionate in his kissing when he’s been drinking >///> it makes Teru flustered, but he promises to wait until after she’s graduated before they do any more than kiss. her friends say they should just get married, but Teru’s never thought about it. Kiyoshi says Kurosaki keeps writing sutras xD Teru wants to go to college to learn clinical psychology like Riko. the day of the trip, someone left a baby at Kurosaki’s door, asking him to take care of it until the parents return. so the trip’s postponed! Riko’s trained in child care, so she shows Teru what to do, but then she’s called away to help with a project! she brings Andy with her, assigns Boss and Akira to track down the parents, and puts Teru and Kurosaki in charge of baby care. they tried calling the police, but apparently, the letter made it sound like a friend asked, so the police won’t get involved (I guess they think the callers were trying to pass off responsibility for this kid and refused to be a part of it?). Kurosaki’s terrified of hurting the baby, so he can’t touch it. his resolve is set by day 2, though, and he and Teru switch roles ❤ by day 3, Boss and Akira find the parents, which is good because Teru and Kurosaki were at their limit xD the baby was in great shape, but they -and the apartment- were not xD (I hear that’s how it goes with real 1st time parents, too). turns out, the parents live in Kurosaki’s building. the husband was away on a business trip and the wife had to go to the hospital; for some reason, she couldn’t bring the baby to the hospital? and her family refuses to help. she heard Kurosaki and Teru talking and was so desperate, she left her baby with them, thinking she’d only be gone for a quick appointment. but she had to have emergency surgery for appendicitis; her husband just go to the hospital when Boss and Akira tracked them down.
with that ordeal over, the team goes to the beach -for work/research but also for a vacation! Kurosaki implies being able to handle a baby with Teru in the future <333 they’re not in a rush for that, though ❤
and that’s the actual end! next time, I’ll review the whole manga, so please click <here> to read that! thanks so much for reading this far with me!

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7, part 8, part 9

I’m trying something new to select manga. I put everything recommended to me or that interested me in a list and used a random number generator to decide!

And the winner is….! *drumroll* Dengeki Daisy!

I am going to be doing shorthand as I read.  These descriptions are really more of a reminder to myself about what all I have been able to read so far.  Sorry if this bothers anyone!  I will do a full description on the final review page of each series I read.

Every post past this point will be a spoiler, so please read ahead with caution!

ch50-55: Teru’s determined to get stronger. she tries some flashy moves on Kurosaki, but he tells her to learn the basics first, so she’ll ask Boss. Teru and Haruka ask Rena about her fiance because Kiyoshi blabbed to them; he’s not sorry, but he goes to Kurosaki to ask for advice. turns out Kiyoshi’s in love with Rena <3333 when did that happen?!? (Teru, your ship is sailing!). Rena also made cookies as thank you gifts for everyone; Kiyoshi’s were done separately for the computer -and listening to her before. Teru and Rena decide to go to a café that Haruka recommended, but they’re interrupted by Rena’s fiancé >( I wanted them to have girl time! but he invites them to dinner and when Teru tries to refuse, he insists. gosh, he talks like a stuck up jerk xP Teru texts Kurosaki about it, and Kiyoshi tries to convince himself to stay out of it, but when Kurosaki’s ready to run head first into it, Kiyoshi follows (Kiyoshi, stop hesitating so much! believe in your feelings!).
the girls are taken to a fancy place with delicious food, so even though Teru didn’t want to go, she’ll enjoy it while she can xD Kurosaki and Kiyoshi listen in through another one of Teru’s phone’s new features. elsewhere, Andy and Boss’re looking into the hotel incident -and we get another Kurosaki drawing xD he’s not bad! he gets the point across!- and they spot the fiancé talking to Chiharu, but they don’t know who he is yet xP Rena tries to talk to her fiancé about the incident, but he shuts her down hard and threatens to break off the engagement which may harm her father’s company. she’s so upset, she has to leave. Kiyoshi rushes after her and walks her home (sweet boy <3). he also calls her Rena for the first time! with Rena gone, the fiancé gets to actual business with Teru; he wants Daisy’s info and identity -though he threatens her with old info so…. Teru’s having none of it and runs out, and when the fiancé tries to pursue her, Kurosaki helps her dodge him. apparently Teru’s bday’s coming up, and she wants socks xD the team meets up at Boss’s café, and Teru and Kurosaki confirm the fiancé talking to Chiharu. they find it really weird that Chiharu would give him outdated info if they’re working together? so now they’re more confused. that night, hacker-Daisy calls the fiancé to see what he can learn.
the next day at Boss’s café, we find out this guy has a fake Jack Frost, but he wants the real thing. he also mentions M’s Last Testament. Andy explains that it was the data originally hit by Jack Frost that Soichiro managed to decode; some of it was used to expose corruption like the professor wanted but most of it was lost (the government really needs to do a better job of handling codes and info). everyone tries to convince Kurosaki to leave it alone, and he says he will, but it clearly bothers him. elsewhere, Rena’s fighting her own battle; she’s trying to figure out this fiancé thing on her own even though helps been offered to her. that weekend, everyone’s called to the school. for a snowball fight. (can I just say that I love this manga? xD ) Rena tries to back out of it, but Kiyoshi goads her into it (I love his face in this shot, too; omg xDD). it’s boys vs girls+Boss, and the girls win! Teru says nice words to Rena and Kurosaki after, giving them the support and reassurance they both needed ❤ filled with courage, Rena goes to her fiancé to break off the engagement, and she overhears his plan to use their engagement party as the grand stage to launch Jack Frost and sell it to the highest bidder.
she sent a text to Teru and Haruka about her plan to meet with her fiancé. she confronts him after his call, and he slaps her! she’s unfazed by his violence, but then he threatens to use Jack Frost on her father’s company. Rena doesn’t go home or to school after that… she sends a message to her stepmom about being “in love” with her fiancé and getting away from everyone’s negative pressure until the engagement party WHICH SOUNDS LIKE BULL TO ME! her friends know it, too, but they have no evidence. we see Rena at a hotel -apparently a resort- and her fiancé’s still trying to control her. he wants her to write a letter to her friends to break off their friendship -so it’s in her handwriting and they’ll believe that 8D freaking jerk >xP -, but Rena won’t. he reminds her of his threat, and she devises a plan to write a secret message using lemon juice. it works ❤ at first the team tried to figure out the obvious letter, but Teru knew the trick for invisible ink, and they found Rena’s real message ❤
now knowing Rena’s real situation and wishes, the teens ask their adult friends to help them save her. they pool their resources and come up with a plan. Kurosaki even reaches out to Chiharu to use that favor she owes him. he just wants some info, so she tells him about the fake Jack Frost program. elsewhere, Teru and Kiyoshi are going to talk to Rena’s dad with their new info -he’s been away on business. he nearly gets attacked but Kiyoshi and Teru manage to save him -with Kurosaki’s help. turns out Kiyoshi’s still good at kendo, so he takes out 2 guys by himself (good job, Kiyoshi ^^). they try to convince Rena’s dad about the danger she’s in, but he’s hesitant to believe them; this seems like a lot and it’s a bit farfetched, but Kurosaki steps in to help validate what they’re saying. the dad’s convinced (that seemed too easy?), so now the real planning can begin. it’s time to save Rena!
they’re at the engagement party. Rena’s almost convinced they didn’t get her message, but then she sees Haruka and everyone silently reassuring her (btw, Andy; DANG! he cleans up good >/////>; ). Kurosaki’s fixed up hair is nice, too ❤ and those glasses! high style all around, guys; good job *claps* Chiharu’s there; she and Kurosaki exchange some info; apparently the fiancé’s IT guy is named Kuwagata, and he basically build the bidding app all the good and bad guys are using. speaking of high fashion, Teru looks great!! she throws a royal fit, though, ‘causing Rena to actually faint from shock xD she’s taken away by some staff while the fiancé takes Teru to a separate room to fix the “misunderstanding”. the staff members were actually Kiyoshi and her dad in disguise ❤ Rena’s safe now! Teru immediately drops the crazy act once she’s alone with the fiancé. she riles him, though, so he reveals his big plan; he’ll showcase the power of the new Neo Jack Frost on the international airport nearby, and his bidders will give him big bucks for it. Teru’s wearing a mic, so Kurosaki hears the whole thing. he destroys Neo Jack Frost -since he found the sample in Rena’s dad’s company then it wasn’t very hard. fiancé foiled! now Kurosaki has to get Teru from the very upset fiancé
ch56-58: um, for some reason, a bomb goes off on the boat? or some sort of small explosion. it’s sealed the doors, so Teru and Kurosaki are trapped in separate rooms. someone named Antler calls the fiancé; he set off the explosion; Chiharu works for him; he also gave the fiancé M’s Last Testament but he’s now taken it back. Andy gets to work on Teru’s door while Kurosaki starts on his own. he’s in the storage room, and he finds Akira there in bad shape O.o? he’s not happy to see Kurosaki, but he can’t even move xD Chiharu calls Kurosaki, letting him know she has Akira’s medicine but she needs the door opened first. the password’s encrypted, though! Akira glances at it and figures out the code. Kurosaki doesn’t have time to figure that out, so he runs off to Teru. she’s still trapped with the fiancé, but with her little phone zapper, she’s holding her own. he gets the upper hand but Kurosaki, Andy, and Boss show up. with 1 kick from Kurosaki’s, he’s down. Andy and Boss take the fiance while Kurosaki walks with Teru. her hairpin falls off and Kuwagata gives it back to her. Kurosaki barely sees his face as he leaves but he nearly has a meltdown all the same; he’ll tell Teru later; they have to get off the boat.
happy reunions happen, and Rena cooks a giant meal for everyone as a thank you; she can cook very well apparently ❤ the fiance’s being interrogated for info, so Boss can’t make it to the party. Kiyoshi goes to help Rena in the kitchen (Teru, I’ve joined your ship; they’re so cute together!!) ❤ the adults talk shop during the party and when Kuwagata’s brought up again, Kurosaki drops his glass. Riko says he’s drunk and sends him home with Teru. he opens up to her about what’s wrong; Kuwagata reminds him of the HR guy that originally got him to give up Jack Frost, but he has no proof. Teru holds him and encourages him to tell the others
we’re back to school and back to normal, but now Rena -and Haruka- have joined as Kurosaki’s servants -though the newbs are just part time. the adults have to catch up on paperwork xD but during this, Kurosaki opens up to them about Kuwagata. after, he goes back to Teru, and they have a moment, but Kiyoshi interrupts before they kiss! dang it, Kiyoshi!! later, Teru and Riko’re talking, and Teru asks Riko to change her hairpin so it’s smaller; when Riko goes to do that, an SD card falls out. the team checks it out at Boss’s cafe, but it’s just encrypted data. Teru wonders if it’s connected to M’s Last Testament, and everyone goes nuts. a mysterious phone call happens just then; it’s Kuwagata, aka HR guy, aka Antler, aka no-name.
ch59: he tries to split the team up, and it starts to work before Kurosaki of all people shuts him down. he did confirm that the data’s the key to M’s Last Testament, though. Akira overheard the convo, and he’s ticked. apparently, he wanted the key; that’s why he worked for Antler up to this point. before he can get violent, Chiharu knocks him out and calls Antler cruel to dangle the prize in front of Akira with no intention of giving it to him. back at the café, Kurosaki finds a listening device which is what Antler was using to upset everyone -he tried to make them think there was a traitor among them. the team is reunited and strengthened. Teru renames Antler as ScrubBrush since he has no name/preference -supposedly. when Chiharu goes to check on Akira later, he’s gone…
I read two volumes again by accident xD but I’ve been having a lot of fun with this ❤ if you’d like to keep reading my review, then please click here.

ch40-43: once things got going, I couldn’t stop reading xD; Kurosaki keeps dreaming about Teru accepting him. we also see what happened when he talked to Ms. Mori (I don’t like calling her Chiharu; makes it seem like I’m friendly toward her xP I’m just going to call her Mori from now on). so Mori proposed a game to Kurosaki; either he find the organization that’s trying to revive Jack Frost and destroy it, or she’ll tell them he’s Daisy, and they’ll make him revive Jack Frost by exploiting his weaknesses -like Teru. anyway, Boss finds Kurosaki. Teru updates Haruka and Rena about the situation and reveals they have a plan to get Kurosaki back -after Boss finds him. Kiyoshi invites Rena out to eat to repay her for her handkerchief last time. on her way home, Teru stops by to see Riko. we see a flashback of their talk last time; Riko feels guilty for having known about Soichiro’s illness but not saying anything to anyone; maybe she could’ve made him get treatment; she feels responsible for his death, it’s not Kurosaki’s fault, it’s hers (actually it’s Soichiro’s, but ok. it was his health and his choice). while in Riko’s office, Teru gets a call from Akira; he wants to meet and tell her where Kurosaki is because he’s bored. elsewhere, Boss says nice words to Kurosaki before getting a call from Riko about Teru; Teru’s missing. Boss’s on the case since Kurosaki’s too busy doing his own thing right now =P Daisy gets a text from Teru about how she’s going to meet with Akira and the meetup is at <someplace>. Boss’s phone is off, only Kurosaki knows where she is, so he races off to get her. over with Kiyoshi and Rena! Kiyoshi explains Teru’s plan to get Kurosaki back; he’s not a fan of the plan, but it’s the best they’ve got. so when Akira called earlier, Teru shot him down. she contacted Daisy with the lie that she was going to meet Akira (strange how he actually called though) since that was her big plan from the start; everyone knew the plan except Kurosaki -obviously xD it works like a charm; she meets him ❤
but he doesn’t want to stick around now that he knows she’s safe. he says she can do whatever she wants, so she starts reading Daisy’s most heartfelt and cringe-y messages out loud. he chases her down and catches her, but she’s the one who really caught him; this was also part of the plan xD they sit down and really talk the way they should’ve from the start. what Kurosaki’s been blaming himself for with Soichiro’s illness was that Teru was kept in the dark; she missed out on precious time with her brother because her brother was helping Kurosaki instead of spending his last days with her; Teru got the shortest straw of all. Kurosaki’s terrified if she’s condemn or forgive him. so she does neither; she thanks him for everything he’s ever done and given to her
❤ so now that he’s back, the team arrives, and they all stay at a hotel for the night. during the meeting, it’s brought up that Kurosaki’ll have to go into hiding while they make sure no one’s on his tail; Teru panics because she doesn’t want to lose him again. Andy dismisses her from the meeting because she’s clearly too stressed to handle this right now. Riko and Teru talk about it, and Riko encourages Teru to take a long bath, enjoy this luxurious hotel for the night, and just rest. after the meeting, Andy talks to Kurosaki; this hotel’s his hiding place tonight. when Kurosaki goes back in, Riko tells him that Teru’s acting strange. he wanted to check on her anyway, so he does so and she’s fresh out of the shower o///o she’s wearing a robe, but he wasn’t mentally prepared for this xD Riko’s locked him in for the night, though; they’re sharing a room to save money 8D also Teru’s terrified that he’ll vanish, so he needs to take this time to reassure her. AND ONLY REASSURE HER; NO FUNNY BUSINESS, KUROSAKI! they talk, and he lets her hold his hand until she falls asleep.
and now we’re back at school! everything’s back to normal; no one was after Kurosaki (which is surprising to me). Teru still writes Daisy messages, but she doesn’t send them; it’s like her diary. Riko asks Kurosaki about his relationship with Teru, and he says he intends to take it slow; now’s not the time to start anything; they need to settle first and get used to their new dynamic. Teru and Haruka are sleeping over at Rena’s house!! <333 I love that they’re friends ❤ Rena catches Teru writing Daisy a message and encourages her to talk to Kurosaki about it since it’s so meaningful to Teru. Teru does ask him if they can keep sending messages like that, but he says no; he says it really badly though so she cries and runs off (bad Kurosaki!). she gets home late because she studied at the library, but Kurosaki’s waiting for her to tell her that he’s about to text her so she better read it xD Teru admits to herself that if he hadn’t said anything, she probably would’ve ignored his message >.>; he won’t play Daisy anymore, but she can still talk to him anytime, but from now on, it’ll be as him, not as Daisy. since his texts won’t be as nice and flowery anymore (lol, ’cause “daisy”), he’ll be nicer in real life. he can be true to himself now that he won’t be pretending anymore. he’s actually already been nicer to her, and she noticed but she wasn’t sure what was different. she sends him a reply and things continue on like normal ❤
ch44: Teru’s discovered video games, but she’s bad at them xD Kurosaki’s good at this one, so he shows her how to play. after, he watches the news and sees info on a big company -the one he’d been investigating that wanted Jack Frost. the team has a meeting. it’s good news that the company’s falling apart, but the team had nothing to do with it; someone else leaked it, and they’re trying to process what this means. Kurosaki wonders whatever happened to Mori and Akira; why send him after the company if they had info that could take them down already? after the meeting, Boss asks Kurosaki to try and meet Akira sometime to gain info on him. btw, Teru hates Akira; she’s ready to throw down if he ever shows up again! Akira calls Kurosaki (didn’t you change your number, Kurosaki? come on!) and wants to meet. Teru doesn’t want him to go, but he’ll have Boss and others as back up, so she caves. they meet at an arcade, and Akira talks a lot. he got in the info on the company, and it was easy since they were focused on Kurosaki and didn’t expect a separate attack -so I guess that was Mori’s plan with it. Akira says they still have plans for Jack Frost. he also says he wants Teru, but Kurosaki’s not rattled in the slightest which sets Akira off. Kurosaki says this was very insightful and leaves
ch45: it’s exam time again. Kurosaki’s wearing glasses!! while Teru takes her tests, Kurosaki and Riko meet at Boss’s café to talk about Akira. Akira reminds Kurosaki of something, but he won’t say. he does warn Riko about Akira’s interest in Teru, though xD but he believes Teru’s smart, strong, and resilient, so she’ll be ok. after exams, that 3rd yr tries to harrass Teru, but she’s having none of it; even when he tries to use Kurosaki against her, she blows him off. she then apologizes to Kurosaki xD he’s proud of her, though. he invites her to a movie before interrogating the 3rd yr who actually wanted Teru’s help with last minute homework xD Kurosaki tells him to ask instead of threaten (good advice for anyone, really), but the homework’s due the day after tomorrow in the morning! Teru’s so excited for her movie though… 3rd yr comes to her apartment to ask for help (how did he know where she lives? O.o); she gives him advice on where to look in the library, but as he leaves, her conscious gets to her. she hates to do it, but she cancels with Kurosaki to help this guy; if he fails his homework, he won’t be able to graduate; this could literally ruin his future, and she has a chance to help him. Kurosaki messes with her, giving her chances to change her mind, but she won’t, so they re-schedule ❤ Kurosaki worries about the depths of her kindness, though, as he thinks of Akira
ch46: after exams are Christmas and New Years, but we already saw how that went at the end of vol6 (seriously, the mangaka plugs vol6 here x’DDDD). Rena and Haruka aren’t ok with Teru’s lack of relationship progress, so they doll her up to help things progress. … Kurosaki isn’t amused (Teru look like a mini Mori >.>;;; which is to say, very cute but way over the top >.<;;; ). Riko encourages Teru to do her best in her own time; don’t try to force things but it’s ok to put a little pressure on. Teru and Kurosaki have an unspoken rule, though, so Teru’s not sure how that works. Riko gives her a bottle of subtle perfume which’s also calming. Riko’s apparently into aromatherapy right now ^^ later, Teru overhears Kurosaki talking with 1 of the lady teachers; the staff’s concerned that Kurosaki’s in a relationship with Teru, but he denies having any feelings for her. when the teacher leaves, Kurosaki realizes Teru heard everything. when he tries to explain, she runs off. she won’t answer her phone, so he asks Riko where she is. Riko asks about why Kurosaki said what he said, and it’s because he’ll say whatever he needs to to stay by Teru’s side. Riko says she’ll keep an eye out for Teru, and Kurosaki leaves. but Teru’s been by Riko, hiding, this whole time xD she used some of the perfume to help herself calm down, and she knows why Kurosaki said what he said, but it still shocked her. she realizes she turned up the heat, and Riko praises her and warns her not to do it too much. Teru makes up with Kurosaki and they go home. but Teru’s having fun with this new ability, so she keeps messing with him until he finally gets even, which she wasn’t prepared for xD men can turn up the heat, too; be careful, ladies~
ch47: we see a flashback of Kurosaki and Soichiro. Kurosaki -like his dad- hums when he’s happy. 1 song they hum/med is called “Daisy Bell”; Soichiro asks Kurosaki if his hacker handle came from the song, but Kurosaki gets mad and won’t talk about it. Soichiro predicts that someday, Daisy will have a good meaning for Kurosaki; he also says Kurosaki’s like him ❤ back to the present! Teru and the team meet at Boss’s cafe to visit Soichiro’s grave together ❤ also Teru gives up her phone for a full deep search to make sure Soichiro (or Akira) didn’t leave anything in it. Boss tries to warn her that it may be damaged; it’s all her bro left her; but she corrects him that her bro left her so much more like his lessons and good memories and all these fantastic friends ❤ that night, Teru and Kurosaki make all of Soichiro’s fave foods, and they get to talk about him more ❤ Teru also brings up “Daisy Bell” and how Kurosaki thinks a lot like her brother, but he storms out. Teru thinks she said something wrong and goes to apologize, but he corrects her. he’s emotional because her words made him happy; he notes how he’s changed since Soichiro made him mad with this question but now he’s happy from it. he laments not being able to talk to Soichiro now, that he misses him, and oh gosh, this had me crying at work; my heart wasn’t ready for these feels TT^TT Teru encourages him not to hold everything in, and when Riko and Takeda show up, they’re holding each other and crying (and I’m crying with them even as I laugh at Riko and Takeda’s expressions TTwTT ). everyone loved Soichiro so much TTwTT ❤ Kurosaki thinks of Akira and admits that Akira’s like him in his dark days; he hopes he can save Akira like how Soichiro saved Kurosaki; maybe then Kurosaki’ll feel Soichiro made the right choice in saving him (I’ve gotta say it now, though; Akira needs to get punched in the face >( just once, at least)
ch48: we see Mori and OMG I LOVE HER WITH SHORT HAIR!! That’s such a cute look; omg!!! *O* anyway, she’s taking care of Akira; who’s whiny and messy. she’s going to take him on a job, and he promises to listen to her. over at the school, Rena’s chatting with everyone about her upcoming engagement (weren’t they already engaged?). Teru notices she’s not excited, but Rena doesn’t trust her judgment with men so she’s not sure if it’s her or him =X Kiyoshi’s there too because he’s fixing the computer again xD Teru likes how Rena and Kiyoshi interact; they strengthen each other without tearing the other down, and they’re able to discuss things freely (tldr; Teru has a ship xD). Rena invites Teru to join her for lunch with her fiancé to help get a read on him. before that, though, over at Boss’s café, Teru’s phone’s been returned! nothing was found, and Andy’s messed with it to add new features like GPS tracking, a panic button, and even an antenna shocker for protection. he also messed with Kurosaki’s phone to make it compatible with Teru’s GPS and panic features. to the hotel for the lunch meetup! but before that, Chiharu (she won me over with her short hair >_>; ) and Akira are there! Chiharu’s meeting someone, and Akira -unsupervised- sees Teru and goes after her. he catches her in the elevator, and Teru hits the panic button. Kurosaki rushes in and stops the elevator
ch49: Akira tries to threaten Teru with a pocket knife, but Kurosaki’s having none of it; he takes the knife -and gets cut in the process- and punches Akira. under fear of death (he’s very dramatic), he passes out from the punch. Chiharu arrives to get him out of here, and she has a gun. she’s obviously frazzled, but if Kurosaki’ll let her go with Akira, she’ll cover up the hacking done to stop the elevator and keep the hotel quiet about everything, she’ll even owe Kurosaki a favor. they agree, and Kurosaki carries Teru out. Riko has Kurosaki take care of Teru once he’s back from the hospital (hand’s cut and needed some stitches but overall fine) since it’s good for Teru and him; they both need some TLC. it works. Teru’s been shoving down her feelings, trying not to cry, because she feels like it makes her weak and like Akira won; she’s just so mad at herself for being scared and unable to do anything and Kurosaki even got hurt because she couldn’t rescue herself. Kurosaki reassures her, and they have a sweet moment; his healing comes from holding her. Boss’s beating himself up for ever asking Kurosaki to meet Akira, but he was just following orders. the team needs to focus on Akira and Chiharu’s involvement; what caused this, why attack now, why there? at the school, Kiyoshi and Rena meet by accident. after the incident, Rena called her fiancé but he never answered and his work excuse was a lie; she’s scared he’s somehow involved. over with Chiharu, he’s clearly involved; he’s the one she met with
and that’s it! I read 2 volumes this time xD; oops. but I had fun, and if you’d like to keep reading my review, then please click here.

Dengeki Daisy, part 8

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6, part 7

I’m trying something new to select manga. I put everything recommended to me or that interested me in a list and used a random number generator to decide!

I am going to be doing shorthand as I read.  These descriptions are really more of a reminder to myself about what all I have been able to read so far.  Sorry if this bothers anyone!  I will do a full description on the final review page of each series I read.

Every post past this point will be a spoiler, so please read ahead with caution!

ch35: Teru’s dropped into a deep depression. Kurosaki’s vanished. everyone’s doing all they can to find him; they ask Teru to be strong in the meantime, but she’s hollow and stuck. Kurosaki’s ignoring everyone’s messages, but he reaches out to Takeda for some information -which he provides. he intends to find the remains of the Jack Frost program and destroy it before he returns, even if it costs him his life. Kiyoshi tells Andy about his phone going missing, so yeah, that’s how they got Kurosaki’s number. when Teru’s standing on the roof, Rena tackles her from the edge, thinking she’s going to commit suicide (aww, Rena’s becoming a really good friend ❤ ); Teru just likes heights; she wasn’t thinking anything dangerous (but it’s sweet how much Rena cares and worries ❤ ). Kiyoshi arrives and decides to provoke Teru to get her into action BY PUNCHING HER IN THE STOMACH (that’s too far, Kiyoshi! you guys punch each other all the time, but never in the stomach! too harsh, man! too harsh!). even Rena gets onto him, but he keeps provoking Teru, saying she clearly doesn’t care for Daisy since she’s leaving him alone when he needs her, he must’ve just been a convenience all along. it finally seems to wake Teru up, and she punches Kiyoshi in the jaw in retaliation before thanking him. Rena picks his glasses up for him -and cleans them-, and he says he hopes they can be happy; he owes Kurosaki his life after all. Rena comments that he’s surprisingly a good friend xD Teru runs to Andy to ask about what Daisy actually did; she wants to be proactive, but she needs more information 1st. elsewhere, Takeda tells Riko about what Kurosaki’s doing, so now the team knows
ch36: Teru keeps getting harassed in her dreams by Akira, but now that she’s got her spirit back, she punches the fake in the face; it’s actually her brother come to advice and look after her (I like how they have dream shenanigans together ❤ ). elsewhere, Kurosaki’s threatening(?) a guy over the phone and keeps getting flashbacks of his dad; we hear another western song (there’re so many referenced in this manga =O). the team’ll meet up tonight to talk about Daisy/Kurosaki/everything from the past. Kiyoshi’s invited along to cook them dinner xD turns out Boss works for the government as Kurosaki’s handler O.o;; he’s a good guy, though, since he worked with Kurosaki previously and is still on his side. he also got a tip, so he leaves early. elsewhere, Kurosaki is now threatening the guy in person, trying to get info on Jack Frost, who he sold it to, how he got it, can he make it again, etc; but it’s a bust. he recommends that this guy cut all ties with whoever’s getting him to do bad so it doesn’t come back to hurt his family. back with the team! once Kiyoshi’s done cooking, Takeda invites him to hear the story -also Takeda wants to get out of there xD; the story starts way back in the day with a government code that was being developed. it wasn’t handled the best and some people opposed that, 1 was the professor and the other was a bureaucrat, and they supported each other. but one day, part of the code was sold to a foreign country, and the seller died mysteriously. it was the bureaucrat who was labeled a traitor. the bureaucrat was also Kurosaki’s father. to investigate the death, Kurosaki became Daisy the hacker.
ch37: Kurosaki meets with another guy to buy the program, but he gets ambushed. back with the team! Andy gives Teru the option to call it a night, but she wants to hear everything; she doesn’t have all the answers yet. so we find out that Soichiro knew the professor and Kurosaki’s father in college -the father was a fellow student-; Soichiro also had to drop out of college because of his parents’ deaths so that he could take care of Teru. he was good friends with both of them, but when everything went to heck at the company, he was given an ultimatum of either stay with the company and lose contact with your friends, or be fired and be unable to provide for your sister. he stayed with the company -obviously- but it was very hard after Kurosaki’s father died and Soichiro couldn’t even attend the funeral or talk to the professor about it. Riko and Teru go outside to keep talking since Riko knows the most about the story at this part; it’s all about when Kurosaki joined the company and worked for Soichiro ❤ since the government couldn’t stop Daisy’s attacks, they decided to hire him at the company instead; Boss had to watch him, though, and was hired as a “temp” with him. YOUNG KUROSAKI’S SO ADORABLE OMG!!!!! *o* ❤ he was quiet and polite, and everyone fawned over him -except Soichiro. unfortunately, his father was his trigger, and once people knew who he was, they pressed that switch, and Kurosaki got violent. everyone quickly got scared -except Soichiro. he baited Kurosaki with a nigh-impossible task and said he expected more from Takahiro’s son (that’s Kurosaki’s dad). it triggered Kurosaki, but in a way that made him work harder; Kurosaki took the challenge and completed the task, and Soichiro praised him and spoke well of his father. this healed Kurosaki, to be recognized and have his father recognized through him ❤ Soichiro encouraged Kurosaki to live happily and be needed by many so the world could see that Kurosaki overcame the pain of his past and conquered the world’s low expectations of him. Soichiro offered to be like a big brother to Kurosaki and protect him in both life and death.
ch38: Kurosaki defeated his attackers -there were 3 of them- and asks about who wanted to resurrect Jack Frost, but the seller says it’s too dangerous to talk about it; Kurosaki says it’s fine; it’s just him, so no one else’ll get hurt. far away, Teru wishes for his safety… back with Teru, the story continues! Andy joined the team, and he and Boss never got along xD Kurosaki became their mediator which made Soichiro proud ❤ team changes happened basically all at once: two members got married and were going to start their own company, Soichiro was about to promoted to his dream division -even though he didn’t have the required degree-, Andy was going to become a school director for his family, and Boss was going to start a café, leaving just Riko and Kurosaki left. Kurosaki’s actually applying to college, so he may be leaving, too; he’s waiting on the results, but if he gets accepted, it’ll be a step in the right direction to follow Soichiro into the new division; Soichiro supports him, and Riko also gives him her full support! Soichiro and Andy meet with the professor, and he’s thinking of finally going public about Kurosaki’s father and that whole incident. he gives Soichiro some “insurance” in case something happens to him, but Soichiro’s convinced everything will be ok. the next day, Soichiro has a doctor appointment and is late coming in; Kurosaki got his acceptance letter and really wants to show Soichiro first; he’s so proud ❤ Kurosaki gets called to the director’s office and everything quickly goes to heck. when Soichiro comes in, his computer’s been hit by Jack Frost, and so has the professor’s; he’s also heavily injured and Kurosaki’s there? O.o????
also, we learned how Jack Frost works and why it’s so scary. it’s a program that locks it’s target. the only way to deactive it is to break the code it attacked
ch39: back to the backstory! Soichiro gets a call about the professor; an ambulance was called by Kurosaki, but he’s since vanished. the director shows up being super sketchy, but Soichiro brushes him off so they can get to work finding Kurosaki -Takeda works for the director. Soichiro finds Kurosaki at the train station thanks to Boss, just as Kurosaki’s about to walk in front of a train; Soichiro saves him just in time and takes him home. the professor wrote several letters to be read at his death, including 1 to Kurosaki. the letter explains that while the professor did turn in Kurosaki’s father for personal reasons, he did not believe Kurosaki’s father to be a traitor; he hoped Kurosaki would find happiness no matter what. we also learn what happened after Kurosaki was called to the director’s office. he met with a guy from “HR” (LIES!) who said he had to give up the Jack Frost program to be forgiven for his crimes; Kurosaki gave it to him and was then directed to the professor who’d been attacked and silenced by lethal injection. Kurosaki called an ambulance, but it was too late. realizing how bad he screwed up, he almost killed himself before Soichiro literally pulled him away from the edge. if Kurosaki had died, everything could’ve been covered up, with Kurosaki as the “bad guy”. Kurosaki intends to turn himself into the police to atone once and for all, the right way this time. we find out that Andy told the director about his meeting with the professor; Soichiro doesn’t blame him, but Andy’s been taking off work, so he apparently blames himself. though it’ll be hard, Soichiro’s confident Kurosaki’ll be ok; he’s done crimes, but he didn’t murder the professor and that’ll be obvious in the investigation. but the government meets with Soichiro; Kurosaki’s been charged for murder because of a politician’s influence; this same politician orchestrated getting Jack Frost from Kurosaki, encouraged Jack to be developed improperly, and probably had a hand with Kurosaki’s father’s murder. but somehow there’s not enough evidence to prosecute him >xP the government needs evidence from the professor’s computer that was frozen by Jack Frost, meaning Jack has to be broken, and only Soichiro can do it now that the professor’s dead. if he can break the code, then they’ll let Kurosaki go. Soichiro’s been diagnosed with scirrhous carcinoma (Idk if this is a real thing) and only has 6 months to live, and the government knows that. if he got treatment now, he might live, but his chances are slim. instead of treatment, Soichiro gets to work deciphering Jack. Kurosaki didn’t know about Soichiro’s illness; when he got out, Soichiro was already hospitalized. Kurosaki still blames himself for everything, but now that Teru knows everything, she feels confident she can save him ❤

ch30: Teru apparently has a hilarious sneeze, and she’s starting to get a cold. we learn how other teachers think of Kurosaki! those who smoke or older ladies like him, but passionate teachers or those who like Teru dislike him -for his hair and laziness. Teru’s English teacher dislikes him, and he riles up Teru, trying to convince her that Kurosaki’s terrible and a bad influence. she makes a bet that if she’s not top of the class after the exam, then Kurosaki must dye his hair black. all her friends want to see that, so they try to spoil her studying xD the teacher even talks to Kurosaki and asks him to cut ties with Teru. this guy assumes a lot and thinks highly of himself. fun fact: Kurosaki told the older lady teachers that he was part British and that’s why his hair’s blond -though he’s not. this English teacher, though, nearly throws away important documents (instead of shredding them) and even downloads a program at work to pirate movies and gets his computer infected with a virus xP he asks Teru to ask Daisy to fix it, and Kurosaki actually does it in person so the teacher can see. and he speaks flawless English while doing it /mic drop
Teru gets top of the class, so Kurosaki’s hair is safe, and the teacher gets off Teru’s case about Kurosaki (but that’s more Kurosaki’s doing than Teru’s). oh, and Teru dodges her cold
ch31: Kurosaki visits a grave in the mountains (we find out it was a computer programmer who wrote books). Teru meets the boy who looks like her brother again, but after, loses her bus pass. Mr. Arai gives a description of Akira, and it reminds Kurosaki of someone, but his art skills suck so no one else can tell what he’s talking about xD (let me rephrase: he’s clearly not a practiced artist. keep working at it, Kurosaki! you tried hard!). btw, Teru’s friends that’re dating kissed! Teru’s brain is now stuck in kissing and what it’d be like. she goes back to look for her bus pass, and the guy shows up again. he wants something in return for it, so he steals a kiss from Teru >( she hits him with her bag and runs off without her pass. he calls her Teru when she runs off… and he matches the description Mr. Arai gave…. but Teru doesn’t know that yet >.>; she tells Riko who tells Kurosaki who says she should just get over it; it’s just a kiss. Riko passes along the message then says maybe Teru should talk to someone kind, so Teru messages Daisy who says nicer words to her. and then says he wants to kiss her and show her how it’s really done x///D Teru totally forgets Akira’s kiss after that, and poor Kurosaki wants to die for sending that xDDD Daisy even sends her an apology after that xD the next day they’re stiff and awkward, so normal xD Riko goes to visit the professor’s grave and meets Akira, too, but she also doesn’t know who he is
ch32: Kurosaki has a dream about Soichiro -though it’s more like a memory. Riko tells Kurosaki about the boy she saw and wonders if it was Akira and if he was the one who kissed Teru. at first glance, he made them think of Soichiro, but they quickly realized he’s nothing like him. Kurosaki takes Teru with him to meet Takeda -and Kaoruko ❤ Kurosaki gets some advice from Takeda; they both overthink to the point of inaction, so he advices Kurosaki to let go of his pride and let someone guide him because at least then he won’t be immobile. later, Teru and Kurosaki are on the search for ramen, and Kurosaki learns that Soichiro actually got lost a lot; he never got something right the first time, but you don’t really lose until you give up, and that’s where Soichiro shined; he never gave up, he kept trying, and if he hit a wall, he’d change directions and keep going until he found his way. Kurosaki is inspired ❤ he asks Teru to go out with him next Sunday so he can tell her something important =O
ch33: Teru’s asking her friends for advice on where she and Kurosaki should go on Sunday. she’s also worried about how to react to what he’ll tell her, but Rena tells her not to rehearse a response; listen with an open mind and give him an honest reaction. Teru decides on an amusement park -since her friends shot down her other ideas-; Kurosaki agrees with her friends when he also hears her other ideas xD Riko’s worried, but Boss tries to reassure her; she just wants them to be happy… Kiyoshi lost his phone but Yoshi found it (he’s the heavier friend with the facial hair; Idk all their friends’ names, but I know his xD ….unless it’s actually Toshi… crap; now Idk >.>; ). Haruka teaches Teru how to internet xD but Ms. Mori’s wired into the computer, so now she knows where Teru and Kurosaki are going xP (Idk how she knew it was them, though?). date time!! Kurosaki and Teru have a great time ❤ for one of the rides, Teru has to give up her bag, and her phone gets switched then. while Kurosaki’s buying her a drink, she gets a text about how to get her phone back: she has to ride the ferris wheel with Akira. she does it. Ms. Mori calls Kurosaki, saying one of his “friends” gave her his number (I think it was stolen from Kiyoshi’s phone, but that’s just a guess), and that Teru’s with Akira now. Kurosaki should get a message from Teru soon that’ll explain what he needs to do next. Akira’s holding her phone hostage until the ride stops, but ferris wheels don’t really stop for long periods of time? but this one stops unexpectedly. Teru sends a message to Daisy, and it says she’ll never forgive him for killing her brother <='( but like, for realz, WHAT!? I NEED ANSWERS!!
ch34: we see a bit of what happened… Akira said there was a password in the message that would fix the ferris wheel, but he was going to delete it, so Teru fought him for the phone and sent the message without seeing it. they said it was to find Daisy’s identity -“the sad guy must be Daisy” xP – but if they had her phone, then they had his e-mail, so…? Idk; it didn’t seem like a strong reason to me. I guess it worked because Ms. Mori finds Kurosaki and yeah, he looks sad. btw, she can also crack systems and computers. she calls him Daisy, and he doesn’t even react. they go to a closed bathroom to talk. back with Teru and Akira, Teru reads the message, but denies it. Akira explains that Daisy made a dangerous program that Soichiro put all his time into correcting and it cost him his health, so it’s Daisy’s fault that Soichiro got sick and didn’t take the time to get checked earlier, so in this way, Daisy killed her brother. this sounds plausible to Teru, but it also greatly upsets her. the message she sent upsets her even more, and she can’t think, can’t move, and doesn’t know what to do. over with Kurosaki and Chiharu Mori, Chiharu taunts Kurosaki with info on the Jack Frost program -that apparently means a lot to him. he’s done with her games, though; whether he can go back to Teru or not doesn’t matter; he’ll always protect her. after this talk, he gets Chiharu’s computer and fixes the ferris wheel. Chiharu calls Akira to abandon the plan and come get her and bring clothes (Kurosaki stripped her so she can’t go outside x’DDDDD). Daisy sends Teru a message that says he knows she didn’t write the message she sent but that it doesn’t change the truth about him being the reason her brother died; he apologizes but also leaves with no intention of coming back. he thanks her for pretending not to know who he is D’x> she tries to call him, but he won’t answer. Akira zaps Teru with a stun gun and she loses consciousness
end of volume <x’O thankfully, I have the next one with me, so if you want to keep reading my review, then please click here.

ch25: Teru has a dream about her brother ❤ Rena gets a call from Mr. Arai, and he admits to being involved with the fake Daisy e-mail attacks, but he doesn’t know anything about Ms. Mori’s attack. the call gets cut off after the sound of a scuffle and a thud. Teru wakes up next to Kurosaki, but it’s because she grabbed him in her sleep and refused to let him go x’D they were both mildly traumatized, but it’s hilarious to me xDDD the man who stabbed Ms. Mori turned himself in and said Mr. Arai paid him to do it, but Ms. Mori’s vanished and so has Mr. Arai. all Ms. Mori’s info got deleted from the system as well, and her resume’s full of fake info -the old direction hired her. Rena tells Teru about the call, and Teru gets her to tell Andy and Riko. they suggest talking to the police, so Riko takes Rena. Teru calls Kurosaki for a ride home, but while she’s talking to him, Mr. Arai grabs her and the call ends. when Kurosaki gets there, Teru’s gone and there’s blood on the ground
ch26: Kurosaki goes after Arai with Boss, but he tells Andy not to call the police yet. over with Teru, she’s been tied up by Arai… because she asked him to. honestly, he doesn’t have the energy to deal with her xD he even gives her phone back after she gets out of her bindings just so she’ll stop talking xD she secretly calls Kurosaki so he can hear what’s going on. Arai’s badly injured, and he only kidnapped Teru because he doubted they’d listen to him if he simply asked. he says Ms. Mori’s the one who stabbed him, and yes, he worked with her, but he mostly just did site maintenance until she told him to re-do the site (right before Daisy hacked it), but he copied the old data first, and he wants to give it to Daisy -the other reason he grabbed Teru. without this data, he’d be labeled the sole bad guy. he asks Teru to tell Rena sorry for him. before he can let Teru go, Ms. Mori calls the building. she’s filled the lower floors with gas, and she wants that USB drive; if it’s not brought to her in 3 minutes, she’ll blow the building. Kurosaki wants to tell Teru what to do, but she already knows. she comes out and hands Ms. Mori a cockroach x’DDDDDDDDDD Mr. Arai still has the USB drive in the building. Teru fights Ms. Mori in the water -they’re by the ocean- and nearly drowns by the time Kurosaki and Boss arrive. Kurosaki revives Teru and holds her as the chapter ends; she calls him Daisy and says she loves him
ch27: Teru fought hard, so now she’s unconscious in the hospital. Riko’s worried, but Kurosaki says she’s just tired; she gets like this. while she sleeps, Kurosaki goes to check on Mr. Arai -Andy’s there too. the story for the police is that Mr. Aria reached out to Teru and she went with him willingly; there was no kidnapping. Andy will also give him a job if he wants it when this is all over, but it’s not from kindness; they want to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t backstab them again. Andy also reminds him that there were some (Rena and Teru) who believed in his character, so he should live in a way that respects them/proves them right. now that Teru’s awake, Boss tells her exactly how far Kurosaki went to revive her after she nearly drowned; I want to believe he’s messing with her, but he seems so serious x’DDDD jeeeeeeeez…! Ms. Mori escaped, btw. Haruka and Rena show up to check on Teru! and Rena thanks Teru for saving Mr. Arai and hugs her ❤ while they’re laughing and catching up, Kurosaki comes by but leaves; Riko can tell something’s wrong, but she’s not sure. she reassures him that Teru doesn’t remember calling him Daisy which doesn’t seem to help. Teru chases after him, and they have a good moment in the courtyard where they mess with each other. Kurosaki’s seems to have made up his mind to leave, though… (dummy >=X )
ch28: life’s back to normal, and everyone’s back at school. Teru’s friends ask her with help for a magazine riddle, and when she gets it right, her head gets too big, so Kiyoshi makes up a riddle using a simplified computer code that she can’t solve xD but if she does solve it, he says he’ll perform “Butterfly” at karaoke -so now it’s serious. elsewhere, Riko and Kurosaki are playing /go/ (Andy calls it “othello” later; I’m not sure why; maybe that’s another name for it? I normally don’t question official translations, but I found this one to be weird), and Riko asks Kurosaki not to reveal himself as Daisy yet; things are finally quiet, and she doesn’t want Teru shocked. but he says he’ll have to tell her, and he’ll need Riko to be around to help Teru through the pain since he’ll be explaining everything -including that he’s the reason Soichiro died. Riko loses at /go/ after xD later at the Flower Garden (Boss’s café), Teru’s being treated by Andy while Riko and Kurosaki drink and keep playing go; she can’t beat him xD Andy hasn’t been eating much lately -he thinks from stress- and Teru gets scared because the same happened to her brother before they found out he had stomach cancer that was too far gone to be treated…  Andy promises to take better care of himself. he also asks if she knows an Akira because Mr. Arai mentioned the name, but Teru doesn’t. Boss has to take Riko home, and Teru walks with a very drunk Kurosaki; he becomes very childish when he’s super drunk xD Teru tests how drunk he is by giving him Kiyoshi’s code, and he figures it out in an instant. over with Boss and Riko, there’s a reason she drank so much but she says it’s a secret; if she thinks of it, she’ll cry. she starts crying. it’s about Kurosaki leaving… later, Teru’s with her friends for karaoke. since she got the answer -even though she didn’t solve it- Kiyoshi has to perform “Butterfly” and he’s all ready for it x’D while Teru’s finishing a call with Riko, a boy bumps into her that reminds her of her brother. this guy’s name is Akira, and we’re given a cryptic message that makes me think we’ll learn a lot more about him
ch29: one stormy night, Kurosaki shows up at Riko and Teru’s door with a puppy. he got a cryptic call from Takeda to meet him, but when Kurosaki showed up, Takeda wasn’t there -though his broken cell phone was- and there was a puppy. somehow, Kurosaki ended up taking the puppy home xD Kurosaki’s obviously worried about Takeda, so he makes Teru take care of the puppy to protect them. two of Teru’s friends have dogs, so they advise her on how to care for it (it’s a girl, btw), and randomly, we also get to see a pic of Kiyoshi during his karaoke performance; he said he’d do it right, and he wasn’t lying x’D well done, Kiyoshi xD while they have the puppy, Teru house trains it. during a very stressed time, Kurosaki yells at Teru and even the puppy flinches at his touch, but Teru helps him approach the puppy better and continues to take care of him. he calms down and apologizes. Teru make a missing pet poster and had a friend hang it where the puppy was found which is very helpful; she included Kurosaki’s number but also a fake name. when someone calls, Kurosaki puts on a persona for the alias xD it’s Takeda. that’s his puppy, and that’s what he wanted to show Kurosaki. he moved recently -which seemed weird to Riko- because his old place wouldn’t let him have the puppy -whose name is Kaoruko. throughout the chapter, Kurosaki keeps comparing the puppy to Teru ❤
extra chapter 1: set after the series ends (according to the page before the start of the extra chapters)? Teru gets a part time job in the café at Christmas time. there’ll be a party where the staff dress costumes like Santa-miniskirts. Kurosaki rushes over, but only Boss is wearing that; Teru’s in a normal Santa outfit. Kurosaki’s conflicted if he should be relieved or not xD
extra chapter 2: set after the series ends? it’s New Years and Riko, Boss, Teru, and Kurosaki are hanging out and playing games. Kurosaki already fell asleep from drinking. we learn that the 1st dream of the year should come true, and whether it was good or bad should predict the rest of your year; to ensure you have a good year, you should sleep with something precious to you under your pillow. so Teru falls asleep with her head on Kurosaki to guarantee good dreams (d’aww). Riko also drops some facts about the “Mt. Fuji, hawk/falcon, eggplant” thing; it’s a word play for “safety, high, and accomplishing things” respectively apparently

Dengeki Daisy, part 5

part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4

I’m trying something new to select manga. I put everything recommended to me or that interested me in a list and used a random number generator to decide!

And the winner is….! *drumroll* Dengeki Daisy!

Dengeki Daisy(image: https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=hT9fXeysIfK1ggeEr7-QDQ&q=dengeki+daisy&oq=dengeki+daisy&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l10.314.2465..2706…0.0..0.129.1467.0j13……0….1..gws-wiz…….0i131j0i10.Lmn75bT-9YU&ved=0ahUKEwisg4746ZfkAhXymuAKHYTXD9IQ4dUDCAc&uact=5)

I am going to be doing shorthand as I read.  These descriptions are really more of a reminder to myself about what all I have been able to read so far.  Sorry if this bothers anyone!  I will do a full description on the final review page of each series I read.

Every post past this point will be a spoiler, so please read ahead with caution!

ch20: Teru’s friends arrive and while they’re all tending to Kurosaki, Teru gets another text from the fake Daisy, telling her it’s her fault >( Kurosaki’s hospitalized, but even when questioned by Andy and Boss, Teru won’t say anything for fear more people will be hurt because of her. Kurosaki has a severe concussion but no other injuries, and he soon wakes up. he can tell something’s up with Teru, and through him, the truth is revealed. they wonder why Kurosaki was targeted until he realizes Teru must’ve been the real target, probably for information. she remembers the website info the 3rd year gave her, and the team jumps into action. Kurosaki reminds Teru that she owes him her life, so he expects absolute obedience; she better be ready to stay by his side at all times xD through their convo, Kurosaki looks like he’s about to kiss her–!!! but then Riko walks in, and Kurosaki has to play it off as something else xD he sends Teru out to get Riko some coffee -because he’s still in panic mode xD Riko asks if he can really tell when Teru’s hiding something, like her current secret (Riko, why would you put this on his radar!??!)
ch21: so it turns out that Kurosaki realized Teru knew that night just before the power went out =.= on another note, at school, Teru tells her friends about everything that happened -in a loud voice in the cafeteria. now the school’s on alert about the fake Daisy, and yes, she did do that on purpose. she also has a talk with Haruka about the almost-kiss to figure out if it was really almost a kiss. Haruka thinks so, probably xD Riko tries to check out the site, but the password’s changed, so Daisy’ll have to look into it. also, Kurosaki wants Riko to give Teru a necklace from Daisy. it was originally going to be a farewell present, but he realized he and Teru are in too deep for that, so now the necklace is just a normal present. he does intend to stop the Daisy thing someday, though; he wants a real relationship with Teru and he can’t do that while he’s still hiding behind Daisy. Riko gives Teru the gift immediately then leaves so now Kurosaki has to deal with Teru’s excitement xD it’s a simple necklace with a metal daisy charm ❤ it’s really cute on Teru ❤ she sleeps with it by her pillow so nothing will happen to it. that night, Kurosaki gets to work breaking the password on the site. the next day, Daisy sends a message to Teru telling her that someday, he wants to tell her everything and that it won’t happen through a screen. Kurosaki’s doing this so he won’t run away; he’ll have to face her and be honest with her.
ch22: Kurosaki and Boss track down some students who were paid to steal e-mail addresses, and they know there’s a black haired kid involved somewhere, but they don’t know who’s really pulling the strings. Teru tries to flaunt her new necklace to her friends, but Rena shoots her down saying that men only give gifts unexpectedly when their about to do something bad. Haruka takes notes and Teru apologizes for her folly xD btw, the student council computer’s slow again xP Teru recommends Kiyoshi to fix it (btw, Rena has a type: smart, handsome, with glasses. though she doesn’t always stick with this type). Teru tries to ask Rena about Mr. Aria (because Daisy said he might be involved -his coding style matches the website), but Rena shuts her down very quickly. on a side note, Kurosaki’s been more popular lately and he’s talking to students more. Andy asked him to get info from the students, but he hates it, and he hates how popular it’s making him Dx Andy tried talking to Ms. Mori, but she said she was being threatened, that’s why she told Teru where to go that day (Andy also has a type and it’s not Ms. Mori; he’s apparently a “super masochist”, so he doesn’t like when girls cry easily). Teru tells Kiyoshi about the student council computer but Kurosaki makes her stay because his new fangirls are outside and he doesn’t want to deal with them xD he falls asleep on her shoulder because he’s been so stressed and tired ❤ Kiyoshi fixes the computer -and deletes all the unnecessary apps that were slowing it down xD – and when he tried to ask a question that involved Mr. Arai, Rena goes off on him, saying she doesn’t know anything about him because they already broke up and why does everyone keep asking her, she won’t get him involved again, he’s not all bad! … which wasn’t what Kiyoshi was going to ask xD he calls her out on obviously knowing more than she’s saying, but he thinks it’s amazing how much she could defend the guy, but that she’s also a fool for doing that xD he finishes by saying he doesn’t like her xD
ch23: Rena gives Teru Mr. Aria’s info, though it may be out of date now. when Haruka invites Teru out for cakes later, she invites Rena along, too, and Ms. Mori overhears them. when they’re all being updated on what’s going on, Kiyoshi asks Andy if Mr. Arai is definitely the suspect; it seems like they don’t have enough proof, and Andy agrees; they just want to talk to Mr. Arai to find out more info; there’s not enough proof to put all the blame on him. when Teru comes to ask Kurosaki for money for the cakes, he sends Kiyoshi with her to keep an eye on things. elsewhere, we see Mr. Arai; his site’s been shut down and his employer’s not happy about it. apparently, he keeps helping them because they’re threatening Rena’s safety otherwise. back to the kids! Kiyoshi is amazed the girls can eat so much xD Rena leaves early to meet her fiancé– FIANCE?! apparently her parents have put her into a relationship because they don’t trust her judgment of men xD Haruka also has to leave early, leaving Teru and Kiyoshi to catch up some. Teru notices that he’s matured a bit -and maybe gotten taller. while they chat, Ms. Mori shows up, asking Teru for Daisy’s e-mail because she’ll get hurt without it. Teru refuses, and Ms. Mori gets mad. Kiyoshi says this is really suspicious, and Ms. Mori leaves in a huff. Teru tries to go after her, but not before Ms. Mori’s stabbed in the street. it’s just in the arm and it’s not deep, but she’s taken to the hospital. Kurosaki takes Teru home, and she finally understands what guilt is. she thinks she’s figured out what Daisy/Kurosaki have been hesitant to tell her…
ch24: we flash back to Soichiro telling Kurosaki to suffer, but we hear more of it and learn that Riko was there, too. the sin he suffered was trying to forget and remove his guilt by selling his heart/passing it off. the crime was bad, but trying to excuse himself and not internalize the consequences was his sin. back in the present! Kurosaki and Riko talk some more, and Kurosaki asks her about Ms. Mori. suffice it to say, Riko’s not a fan xD she thinks Ms. Mori’s just stupid, an air head, and too focused on her nails; she does them every day. elsewhere, Teru got a scrape in gym so she has to go to the infirmary. Ms. Mori hits on the guilt a bit, but then brings up how Teru was almost an accessory to murder, and Teru really starts to feel overwhelmed with guilt. Ms. Mori tries to cheer her up, saying they can team up and take down the bad guys together if they just go to the police. before Teru can agree, Kurosaki shows up and takes her away. Teru wants to do Ms. Mori’s plan, but Kurosaki starts pointing out the flaws. like how giving the police Daisy’s info’s the same as turning him in -since hacking’s a crime-, and that Andy would go down too since he used Daisy’s skills as well, so now the school’s in trouble, and if they point the police at Mr. Arai and they’re wrong, then his reputation has been ruined for nothing. rather than passing off the judgment to ease your guilt, you need to own who you are or you could deal with the consequences forever; they’d forever weigh on your conscious. when he leaves and Teru calms down, she asks Riko what she should’ve done, and Riko tells Teru the story “of two men” -the flashback we saw before. elsewhere, Ms. Mori approaches Kurosaki; she wants him to serve her, not Teru. he comments on her nails and how they’re painted despite her injury. she tries to get away, and he tells her that he knows she’s not as dumb as she wants people to think and that he’s going to keep protecting Teru. that night, Teru’s over at Kurosaki’s. she talks with him and admits that when Ms. Mori originally asked her for Daisy’s info, it wasn’t from the kindness of her heart that she kept it from Ms. Mori. he lets her cry it out

ch15: Teru’s trying her best to be normal around Kurosaki and Daisy, but she’s terrified she’s going to slip up. she works herself into such a panic that she faints at school. Riko checks on her in the infirmary; they think she’s just anemic. turns out class pres is the one who called for help; she also calls Teru out for holding things in until it affects her health. she recommends that Teru talk to someone -but clearly not her, she’s too busy and important to speak with someone as lowly as Teru (this girl is a tsundere). Teru decides to talk to her best friend, Haruka -who we’ve seen from the start but now she has a name. class pres was also listening in. they basically suggest that Teru already knows what she must do?! it works because Teru’s able to get things back to normal with Kurosaki. Haruka also invites class pres to hang out, so hey! new friendships! though they have very different personalities xD (btw, class pres’s name is Rena. maybe I’ll remember it >.>;; )
ch16: Teru’s thinking about love a lot more seriously; does Kurosaki actually like her? how can she find out? what if he doesn’t? can she do something to make herself more appealing? Haruka tries to give her advice, and another of their friends invites Teru to a mixer with them. Teru agrees because she wants to learn how women attract men xD while doing work for the school, Kurosaki gets sick. he gets medicine from the infirmary and Ms. Mori’s a little too attached to him. he still gets sick, though, and Riko tells Teru so she can get some medicine after the mixer. Teru instead leaves the mixer to take care of Kurosaki. Haruka invites Rena to come to the mixer instead xD Kurosaki and Teru have an almost moment that goes awry, as usual (can I just say that I love his hair when it’s falling down a little and not quite so stylized? sooooo cute..!)
ch17: we learn a bit more about Soichiro this chapter ❤ everyone loved him, though they all saw different sides of him. Teru gets to tell Kurosaki and Riko about her silly, over the top, doting brother, and Riko gets to talk about the man and work partner she fell in love with ❤ Kurosaki can’t talk about him, though, since he’s never admitted to working with him. Daisy can, though, and he does a little. Teru asks Daisy if her brother gave him that name, but there’s a deeper history there… Before that, though, a 3rd year tries to harass Teru so he can smoke on the roof, but she refuses to comply. when Riko tries to step in, he uses his dad’s influence to threaten her position as a teacher. Kurosaki punches him and warns him about the future consequences for his continued behavior. Kurosaki then gets 5 days of house arrest and 3 months without pay for punching a student >.>; when Daisy finally answers Teru about his name, he reveals the not so great truth… back in the day, he’d given himself the name Daisy Cutter in reference to a destructive bomb, to reference the power of his cracking/hacking programs’ destructive power. later, he came to regret his name, but Soichiro wouldn’t let him forget it. Teru expresses her sympathy and empathy in a kind message to Daisy and also goes to find Kurosaki. she comforts him in that silly but heartfelt carefree way her brother used to comfort her while also being sneaky yet understanding like Kurosaki does
ch18: Kurosaki’s still on house arrest, so Teru watches scary stuff at his apartment -since Riko’s gone. lately, Kurosaki’s been making more jokes about leaving or being fired, and Teru’s not ok with it. back at school, a mysterious guy keeps appearing; he’s so scary and disheveled, everyone thinks it might be a ghost, but it’s even scarier if it’s a real person… also, cell phones are getting virus messages under the guise of Daisy. Teru’s ticked, but her friends try to cover up the she might know Daisy or any hackers at all (hacking’s a crime, after all -or “cracking” as this manga says). Teru gets a message from the fake Daisy telling her to meet him at a specific time and place, but the ghost -apparently the school director named Ando- appears and talks to her. Kurosaki also shows up and punches the ghost for not explaining himself correctly. Teru does not approve of her school’s director in any way xD Kurosaki’s given the job of watching Teru while Riko and Boss go to the meet up. the photography club’s there because they got a tip that “Daisy’s” partner would show up, so Teru was almost set up for blackmail or social ruin. on another note, turns out Kurosaki gets scared by horror stuff even more than Teru does xD
ch19: Teru’s being bullied again. it seems rumors about her knowing Daisy -even the fake one- have gotten around. all the school can do is post a notice about the e-mails and texts being fake; they won’t delete your data, but if your data was affected, please notify the school. Kurosaki wants to do more, but Andy (director Ando’s called Andy) and Riko tell him just to take care of Teru since Kurosaki may be the real target. he hates feeling so useless, though. he’s been feeling more tense around Teru and thinks he should end the relationship. Andy tells him to do it bluntly, and Riko comes back later to explain that if he’s too strained then he should change the relationship; reach out to Teru, confess to her, and she’ll accept him; Kurosaki’s the only one torturing himself and he doesn’t have to. elsewhere, the 3rd year from before corners Teru and gives her information about a dangerous website that students are being recruited to in order to make money; he says she better never reveal how she got this, but maybe it’ll help stop all the cell phone attacks lately. Miss Mori spots them and tells Teru that Kurosaki was looking for her. when Teru goes there, Kurosaki’s not there, but there’s a note on the ground. Kurosaki shows up just in time to knock Teru out of the way of a falling desk and chair, getting hit himself. he’s unconscious and bleeding when the chapter ends…

ch10: in which Riko trolls everyone xD (btw, I’ve been reading the chapters and then doing a recap after) Teru’s about to move out, and she wants to get a thank-you present for Kurosaki for letting her stay with him. her friends suggest many things, but a good meal seems like the best idea. Kurosaki asks Riko where they’re moving, and Riko says you can’t get there in just a few minutes by car; she warns Kurosaki that he better be sure this is what he wants. when Teru asks her, Riko still won’t say. Teru wanted to make pot stickers for their final meal, but packing her old place takes too long. turns out Kurosaki can cook, though, so he made the food, and he’s being nice to her, and it finally hits home that this easy time with him is ending. she runs out crying, and he comforts her by saying she can come back to clean and work for him whenever she wants xD it works, and she feels better. the next day, Teru moves out… and moves in right next door 8D

ch11: Teru hates the rain because that’s when her brother died. her friend from middle school comes to check on her, and he’s just a super friendly guy but his gf gets jealous of Teru. of course it’s raining. the next day he asks her to manage the kendo club because their normal manager is out sick. she wants to get out of it, but Kurosaki releases her for the day since he has Kiyoshi as a servant, so she agrees. she does a really good job! but the friend’s gf decides to bully Teru, and Teru’s just done with it. she tries to fight back, but Kurosaki shows up and stops her. he also low key threatens the other girls so they leave Teru alone. he scolds Teru and when she runs out, Kiyoshi tries to advice Kurosaki before realizing he’s extra mean so Daisy can be extra nice (Kiyoshi also knows that Kurosaki is Daisy). when Teru complains to Daisy, he’s very kind to her, and she feels better. she goes to Kurosaki later to apologize for her behavior and says she thinks she’ll start to appreciate rainy days thanks to Daisy. she also remarks that bad memories can become fond ones thanks to those around you which resonates strongly with Kurosaki who keeps remembering Soichiro’s death but Teru’s starting to make those memories better

ch12: Riko wants a cheesecake, so she makes Kurosaki buy it when he loses mahjong. he makes Teru come with him since she’s his servant. they get separated when Takeda appears. Teru’s phone dies, and Takeda leaves a cryptic message to Kurosaki on purpose. he also offers to charge Teru’s phone, and she lets him but she also calls him out on searching it for her brother’s software. he tries to deny it, but she knows how sometimes you have to do bad to get far in business; that doesn’t make you bad, though. he finally admits that she’s right and that after his search, her phone is clean. Kurosaki finally shows up and after a quick talk, Kurosaki starts to take Teru back to Riko. when Takeda tells her he won’t approach her again, she tells him to take her with him to another cafe sometime because she’d like to still see him. she saved him from his own darkness. he also warns Kurosaki about others wanting Soichiro’s program, so turns out he’s not a totally bad guy. he also teased Teru about who Daisy might be which leads her to start hoping that it might be Kurosaki, but she’s not ready to find out yet.

ch13: Teru and her friends are going on a study trip to the beach! since she doesn’t have a swimsuit other than her school-issued middle school one, Kurosaki buys her one, and on the shopping trip, she learns the name of a song that Kurosaki likes (I wonder if the Japanese version of the manga uses the same song titles =O they’re very western). Teru invites Kurosaki to the beach, but he refuses because he doesn’t want to hang out with a bunch of teenagers. Riko goes in his place and trolls him some more xD Teru buys a music box -with the song Kurosaki liked- for Daisy and Riko gives it to him when she heads home early for work. there’re a typhoon coming soon, so the teens have to figure out if they should leave early. Teru doesn’t want her money to go to waste, but she’s nervous about the storm. she calls Kurosaki to ask, and he makes up the excuse for wanting to eat curry so she better come home and make it for him xD so she goes home. on the trip, two of her friends get together! everyone else is happy and salty about it x’D btw, Daisy sent Teru a picture of the music box she’d sent him. Kurosaki leaves his window open when he goes to buy groceries, and the papers under the music box shift so it goes airborne. Teru’s at the apartment when it happens -dun, dun, dunnnnn…!

ch14: the music box opens, and Teru hears the song. she knows Kurosaki told her not to enter that room, but she wants to know. so she enters, and the room’s just full of books and papers and computer equipment. she finds the music box she sent Daisy and closes it. Kurosaki calls her then, but she can’t face him, so she runs back to her place after closing the room back. when Kurosaki gets home, he’s drenched xD Teru’s making tea in the kitchen. she makes a comment about running home because she left her window open, and after calling her stupid, Kurosaki realizes he did the same thing xD he finds the music box safely closed on the floor and thinks he dodged a bullet, but a lot of his papers are ruined. Teru’s trying to act normal, but she’s strained and he notices. the power goes out when lightning strikes, and Teru breaks a cup and cuts her finger when trying to clean it up. Kurosaki treats her cut and comforts her, thinking it’s the rain that has her out of sorts. she cries herself to sleep and prays that Kurosaki never finds out that she knows; she just wants to keep Daisy forever, no matter what.

And that’s it for volume 3! to read about volume 4, click here.
